While there are a few options available for the 50-plus crowd, most dating apps and websites seem to be toys for the young. Dating services like Tinder and OkCupid can quickly bring together individuals who are looking for romance or just want an activity partner. When you think about it, however, older adults would probably benefit equally, if not more, from these solutions.

Limited mobility and declining health makes it hard for those of advanced age to meet new people. The inability to interact with family and friends can lead to social isolation, which can be detrimental to a person's well being. To provide a solution to this problem and bring more joy into the lives of older adults, an Australian entrepreneur has developed a web application known as Stitch to help older adults find companions for activities.

Andrew Dowling, Stitch's developer, told Vice magazine that he wanted to create an app for aging adults who are geographically separated from family and friends.

"One of the inevitabilities of aging is that your social circle gradually shrinks," Dowling told the source. "Some people die, some move to Florida, some find their bodies just can't do the activities they used to. With people living longer than ever before, this means the only way to stay socially healthy is to meet new companions."

At Independa, we understand that social engagement is the key to helping older adults stay independent. Our Independa Friends & Family solution requires no prior computer knowledge and can be used on a touchscreen tablet or special LG television. Users can communicate with loved ones via social media networks and video chat or set up useful health reminders.
