Spending time outdoors is wonderful, but sometimes life encourages us to be inside for one reason or another. The good news is that there are so many ways to get creative and enjoy time inside through stimulating activities.

Here are five of our favorite indoor activities for seniors!

Chair Exercises

Staying physically active is beneficial for our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Stuck inside? You don’t need fancy gym equipment. All you need is a chair!

Check out this awesome guide that includes 21 chair exercises you can try right now.

Video Chatting With Loved Ones

If you can’t physically be with your loved ones the next best thing is video chatting with them! Thankfully, our technology makes this very possible and we have multiple options when choosing how we’d like to interact with family and friends.

For example, consumer software solutions, like Facetime and Zoom, allow the user to video chat on mobile devices such as smartphones, laptops and tablets. Sometimes using these devices can be challenging if you’re new to them due to smaller screens, software updates, and extensive coordination with family members.

Another option is using technology that turns your television into an engagement platform. These are not free like other systems, but are simple and easy to use. Family members can connect to the platform through any of their devices as well.

Explore Your Creativity

Do you remember constantly creating as a child? Being indoors is the perfect chance to reconnect with your inner child and have some fun creating! Grab some colored pencils, watercolors, markers, paper, and whatever else feels fitting and explore your creativity. This isn’t something you have to take seriously, so don’t worry about the end result. Getting in touch with your creativity is a great way to express yourself and remember what it’s like to feel joyful and curious.

Self-Care Practices

There’s never a bad time for self-care!

Treat yourself by spending the day pampering yourself as if you were at a spa. This could mean taking a luxurious bath, doing a foot soak, giving yourself a manicure or pedicure, reading a book, or whatever else makes you feel relaxed and taken care of.

Learn Something New About a Topic of Interest

When you’re indoors this is the perfect time to dive deep into a topic of interest and teach yourself something new. Is there something you’ve always wanted to learn more about? Now is the chance to research, read, and discover new information. Perhaps you will even develop a new skill or hobby.
