Can Technology Provide Social Support for the Elderly?

Last week our Chief Medical Officer, Richard Della Penna, set the stage for a new Independa series on “How Technology Helps the Caregiver.” He mentioned the lack of conversation around the use of technology as a key aid in assisting caregivers to help older adults stay in their own homes for longer and to provide them with support and a sense of community.

This week Independa CEO, Kian Saneii had the opportunity to talk to Leslie Curwen of the BBC World Service about this very issue. In the segment linked below called “The cost of ageing populations”, the BBC takes the conversation global with a focus on South Korea and the economic and political issues contributing to the increasing financial and social concerns of the elderly.

The conversation goes on to focus specifically on isolation and how the use of technology solutions, like those from Independa, built around the telephone or the television can be used as a first line of defense to provide health and social support for the elderly.
