In an interview with Rowan's Home Care Technology Report Dr. Della Penna offered a preview of the remarks he'll make at the conference. When asked how he made the transition from working for a large health system to becoming CMO of an innovative technology company, Dr. Della Penna said that he was a bit skeptical, but quickly changed his mind.
"When I heard about the company founder's vision, I said, 'This is different,'" Dr. Della Penna told the publication. "Independa integrates multiple technologies, rather than having a single point solution, with a heavy emphasis on social engagement. I knew from my clinical practice that, no matter the kind of care, it must incorporate social aspects with clinical care. Without person[al] and family engagement, you're whistling in the wind."
Dr. Della Penna added that in the coming years, the implementation of eldercare technology solutions will become a necessity for home care companies. Citing the Institute of Medicine's Retooling for an Aging Workforce report, Independa's CMO noted that technology is necessary to fill the gap created by the declining number of paid professional or family caregivers.
