As the Baby Boomer generation enters its retirement years, our nation is undergoing a dramatic ethnographic shift. America will boast over 70 million seniors by the year 2030, according to the U.S. census, making it crucial that healthcare and caregiver technology advances at the rate necessary to support their needs.

An overwhelming majority of this generation has expressed the desire to remain as independent as possible, for as long as possible. This is evidenced by the popularity of aging in place, and the increased availability of technology aimed to promote older adult self-reliance.

However, successful aging in place requires active planning and foresight. Mary A. Languirand, Ph.D., co-author of How to Age in Place, explained some of the many benefits of proper preparation to HealthLine.com.

Languirand urged seniors to avoid putting off planning, including "thinking about how they might need to change their lives or their environments in order to ensure that they're going to be able to retire and live comfortably where they want to live and be doing what they want to be doing."

Even with the proper planning and precautions, a new study in the American Journal of Public Health found that two-thirds of older adults will need some form of assistance to manage the activities of daily living

Independa's cloud-based software solution provides the necessary assistance to help both caregivers and care recipients feel more confident about the decision to age in place. Independa's social engagement and remote care solution enables a user to remain socially active and engaged, despite challenges of mobility or distance.
